Kwankwaso has signed into law a bill
prescribing a minimum of 14 years jail
term for rapists, lesbians and homosexuals in
the state sunnewsonline.com reports
The new law entitled: "Kano State Penal
Code Amendment Law" was signed by the
governor at the 174th session of the Kano
State Executive Council meeting, which took
place at the Government House yesterday.
Kano State Attorney General, Mr. Maliki
Kuliya, who briefed the press on the
amended Penal Code explained that, "the
minimum punishment for this offence (rape)
is 14 years imprisonment."
The Attorney General expressed hope that
the amended law would reduce cases of rape
and other related crimes in the state.
