These are not the best of times for the Nigerian Naira as the dwindling oil price in international market has affected the value of the Naira. The Central Bank of Nigeria today announced the devaluation of the Naira, pegging the Dollar to Naira exchange rate at N168 to a dollar as against the N155 it was previously. Announcing the new exchange rate at the apex bank's Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja, the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele said the devaluation of the Naira against the dollar is to strengthen the Nigerian currency in the face of the falling international oil price. He called on the Federal government and the National Assembly to speed up the process towards the immediate passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, which has been pending passage for the past two years.

One Aminat Akani has been arrested for drowning a four-year-old child, Nofisat, the only daughter of her lover, Moshood Mubo. Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has signed into law a bill prescribing a minimum of 14 years jail term for rapists, lesbians and homosexuals in the state sunnewsonline.com reports The new law entitled: "Kano State Penal Code Amendment Law" was signed by the governor at the 174th session of the Kano State Executive Council meeting, which took place at the Government House yesterday. Kano State Attorney General, Mr. Maliki Kuliya, who briefed the press on the amended Penal Code explained that, "the minimum punishment for this offence (rape) is 14 years imprisonment." The Attorney General expressed hope that the amended law would reduce cases of rape and other related crimes in the state.

A 34 year-old man, Matthew Williams nicknamed Fifi, was allegedly found eating a woman's eyeball and face in a hotel room. The horrified security staff at The Sirhowy Arms Hotel in Argoed, South Wales, burst into the room after the m****r suspect refused to let them in. The hotel staff called police who hit Matthew Williams with a high voltage taser which knocked him to the floor. He was formally arrested but died moments later due to high voltage. 2 (10) His victim, a 22-year-old woman who he'd just met, was also confirmed dead from her injuries. President Barack Obama is sending up to 1,500 more soldiers to Iraq to train Iraqi and Kurdish forces to fight ISIS, in a deployment that would almost double the total number of American troops there to 2,900. The White House said in a statement that it will also ask Congress for another $5.6 billion to fund the fight against ISIS. The troops will not have a combat role, and will operate from bases outside Baghdad and Erbil. To date, Anbar province and Taji district have been considered as two likely locations for operations centers outside of Baghdad and Erbil.
